PLC meeting on 4 Jan 2010, Mon - 2 plus pm
Dear PLC Scouts
I need to meet up with you all on Monday, 4 Jan when sch reopens.
Time to meet is 2pm or whichever when the noon assembly ends.
Meet at Scout den to discuss plans for the CCA exhibition on the following week Monday (11 Jan 2010). Yes, its on the week 2 Mon so there isn't much time left.
One side note to think about: Pls do not be overly ambitious as whatever we are putting up has to be taken down easily and quickly. Reason being the Sec 3 level will be going for the Sec 3 camp at Kota Tinggi, M'sia from 14-16 Jan and so you'd be lacking in manpower to bring down the structure if its too ambitious.
Also I am certain that PE dept will need us to bring down the structure at the end of the CCA exhibition day since they would need to use the field for PE lessons too.
One more thing you'd need to consider as we may not have enough usable Spars that are in good condition. I won't be getting new Spars until a later time probably after Jan.
We'll discuss all these details on Mon, 4 Jan at 2pm ok?

CCA Orientation
Dear Scouts
The Patrol Leaders' Council can start planning for the CCA orientation with the construction of a model for the pioneering project. Those who went to KL had seen how delicate and dedicated their scouts with regard to the amount of effort and time they spent to build the model. Only when the model is done will we start building the real structure. Maybe we can replicate the model that we received as the gift to the area as the project. Otherwise I hope to see good models being built. It will be tiring to take down and rebuild when it is not up to standard so I urge you guys to plan together and come up with a really good model. For the date of the CCA orientation, I understand that it is on 11th of January. If you guys need my advice/ help, just call me.

Dear Venture Scouts
I do hope you take the opportunity to finish your Venture Scout Standard asap. It is of a concern as you guys have not progressed much over the past year. Most of the things can be done pretty quickly. I am not sure if you do have a Venture file to keep your records. Please feel free to contact me or Faridah regarding the Venture Scout Standard.

Day 5 - Last day! Woot!
The past 5 days during the 'journey' that all of has gone through has given us special meaning and I am very sure that the Scouts have all grown a little bit more mature (I hope) and a little bit more happy about Scouting.
The Leaders have definitely learnt much during this 'journey' from one another and new friendships have been forged too.
Many many thanks to Justin, Joanne and the rest of the Ventures who have made this possible and at such a success. I am amazed by them. Well Done!
Also many thanks to the Malaysia Bangsar Scouts and Zonice Scouts who had made it a very enriching and wonderful experience for all of us. We definitely felt very welcomed.
A special thanks to Bangsar Rover Chai. On day3, we had a Scout who was ill and needed to see a doctor. He help to drive us (Ms Alia, I and the boy who was ill) to a clinic in Pudu, KL. Thank you again Rover Chai!

I hope that all that were learnt in this trip, the Scouts will bring them back and apply it in their daily lives and benefit to all those around them.

day 3 & begining of day 4
day 3
After breakfast in the morning at the cafe, we were in full uniform as we were going to visit the hosting Bangsar district's schools. There were 5 schools that we visited and the hospitality of the Scouts in the schools were great. It set a precedence that we should extend such warm hospitality or more when they come to Singapore to visit us too.
Day 4 - 730am
At the cafe in YMCA having our breakfast.
later the scouts will be going for an amazing race kind of activity to visit some of the various places of interest.

day 2
Tough day... The scouts went to Batu caves in the morning and the dark cave experience was most impressive. The guided educational tour through the huge cavernous pitch dark caves was fantastic and the scouts all agreed that it was something that they've never experienced before.
day 1 of the trip
Hit the airport and met up with the Bangsar scouts who brought us to the Kota something rainforest to trek.
Unfortunately we were quite high and dry as we didn't had the time to fill up our water bottles with potable water.
So it was a tough and sweaty trek through the rainforest trail and the weather was unexpectedly warm too.
The Scouts were great! It was a 30 minute trek and its something like an off-beaten track at Bt Timah or something.
Also there were mosquitoes that awaited us at the end of the trek when we stopped to take group photos.
The girls who were wearing kuloids suffered at the mercy of the blood-starved mosquitoes.
Thankfully my tiny bottle of mosquito repellent came in handy.
I was was also soaked through with my own sweat and I think I'm going to smell... ugh.. hope they have washing machine, dryers
and irons at the YMCA. Haha...
We then had lunch at macdonalds nearby before setting off to Zonice, their Scout Shop. Hope we can get a couple of
interesting steals there.
Post lunch...
At the Zonice, we had saw their 'corporate' video of what Zonice is all about and what do they do.
And they are a pretty successful enterprise itself. In addition to that, they organise and conduct scouting activities
for Scouts and schools too.
later it was a showing of an old video film of some 51 year old American former farmer living it out for the rest of
his retirement in the Mountains and he built his log house from scratch all by himself. It was an inspirational and
amazing documentary about him and the wild.
After which it was a lot of team building games which everybody had loads of fun and laughter.
Unforunately we had to wait for the rain to stop before we could play the outdoor games and that was another wonderous time
for all of us. I literally laughed my stomach out. It was hilarious.
Some casualties for the day. 1 had something in the eye which caused pain, but after flushing with water, it was fine.
Another wasn't so good as it was stomach flu.

Latest updates on the KL trip
Dear Scouts involved in the KL trip
I have just emailed to you all the latest updates in packing list and other info.
Please check your email and SMS me if you didn't get it.
You'd need to be wearing your uniform on quite a number of days, so I am not sure if your uniform can be kept in good smelling condition by day 5 when we return. I suggest you bring some small bottle of baby powder. Think that will help a little. I think by now is a good time to start packing if you have not yet started.
Make sure your uniform is in order and if you are missing woggles, socks, etc, do make a trip down to Scout Shop at Bishan to get your wares. Also you might want to get a poncho there if you don't have one.
