Wood Badge Unit Visit/ Pioneering

Dear Scouts

This Saturday (3 Nov) is my Wood Badge Unit Visit. As such, all are to report in uniform (with beret). You will need the uniform for the Flag Breaking, Certificate Presentation and Flag Lowering Ceremonies. Do bring along your PT attire for the activity is pioneering. PLs and APLs please help to coordinate and pass down the messages to the rest.

Unit Hike Preparation Information Part 1

Dear Scouts, this is the preparation information Part 1 to the unit hike which will be held on 25th Aug from 9am to 3pm.

For Sec 1s (Observer Badge - to fulfil all 5 criteria):
1. In Kim‟s Game, remember 24 out of 30 well-assorted articles after one minute of observation. Test to be performed twice with different articles and each article to be adequately described.
2. Recognise 8 out of 10 simple sounds. These may include animal sounds, sounds of different musical instrument, different vehicles sound, etc.
3. Give an accurate report of an incident lasting not less than one minute and involving at least three people. This report must include a full description of one of the persons involved.
4. Travel on a public transport for about 20 minutes or walk along a street for 10 minutes. Describe, to the satisfaction of the examiner, of the places, people and dynamics that have taken place.
5. Demonstrate alertness to potential sources of dangers in an urban setting. This could be done in the context of a risk assessment or potential terrorist plots in public places.

For Sec 2s (Observer Badge + Guide Badge - see below 2 criteria):
1. Have a good knowledge of a locality of your choice for example a museum, conservation area or neighbourhood.
2. Conduct a guided tour for a patrol of the selected locality.

For Sec 3s (Observer Badge + Guide Badge + Naturalist Badge - see below 3 criteria)
1. Make a detailed study of any one plant or animal (i.e. ferns, grasses, wild flowers, trees and shrubs; butterflies, moths or other insects, amphibians, wild animals, birds, fish etc). Discuss with the Examiner the results of observations and sources of any information used, i.e. museums, books etc.
2. Make a visit to any natural conservation area in Singapore and display an understanding of how man‟s activities or management could affect the site.
3. Show a general understanding of the efforts by the government or any non-governmental organisation involved in the protection of natural environment.
*To be listed as an environment badge for First Class Scout Badge.

Project Communi' Bake 2012

Dear Scouts

Collaborative Project with Ayer Rajah Youth Executive Committee - Project Communi’ Bake 2012

We are pleased to introduce the above captioned event for your active participation.
Project Communi’ Bake 2012 – a project driven by youths for youths is an initiative of the Ayer Rajah Youth Executive Committee (YEC). The purpose of the project is to create a common platform for Singaporeans to reach out and support the under-privileges, showing care and concern together as an inclusive society.

The project aims to engage different communities to form and assemble the biggest cup cake mosaic of size 16m x 8m, which will bear design synonymous to the NDP theme "Loving Singapore, Our Home" and concurrently culminate for the certification of Guinness World of Records and Singapore Book of Records.

Our Scouts have been invited to partake in the arrangement of the cup cakes mosaic, fringe activities and render yeoman services such as distribution of cup cakes, crowd control and ushering roles.

The Venture Survival Camp will be an experiential camp that will allow the participants to use their scouting skills to learn to survive in a forested terrain. At the same time, to explore further their knowledge in survival skills and interaction among Venture Units and its members.

East Area Patrol Leaders' Training Course 2012

Dear Scouts,

Please let your PLs know if you are keen on attending the course. It is a core requirement for those who wish to attain the First Class Scout Standard and subsequently the Chief Commissioner's Award. This course facilitates the learning of Scouts in acquiring the skills for leadership.

Tampines District Foot Drill Course

Dear Scouts

The Tampines District Foot Drill Course is now open for your application. Through this Course, participants will be able to train towards high standard of foot drill according to the requirements of the foot drill Proficiency badge in accordance to the POR.

The Tampines District Foot Drill Course is run on 3 dates, with 2 sessions each day. The assessment will be in the last session of the course.

Scuba Diving Course

Dear Scouts,

I am pleased to inform you that the Basic Scuba Diving Course organised by Cuon Scout Group, is now open for registration.

1. Course Objectives

• Learn what wearing scuba equipment feels like and how easy it is to move around underwater while wearing it

• Find out what it’s like to breathe underwater and learn whether you can be comfortable there

• Learn some basic skills and safety rules that will carry over to your full scuba certification course when you take the next step.
