7 Aug 09, Fri Special training to get your Scout Standard!

Hey! That's our Dove Scouts in action at the NDP practise! [http://www.flickr.com/photos/boreddad/tags/ndp09/]

Hazimah with a beady-eyes fierce look, "Don't you dare see me girl and think you can bully me harr! I'll pull your nose hairs out and poke your eyes blind!"
[Managed to stumble upon somebody's flickr site and that guy took really a LOT of NDP practise photos]

Thumbs up for the NDP Dove Scouts who sweat and toil hard every Saturday for the big event next week!

Dear Dove Scouts

This Friday is National Day celebration in school and everything should end about 10 or 10 plus am.
We will have a short 2 hour Scout meet (11am-1pm) and JiangLi will be there to accredit you on the areas lacking for your Scout Standard and Advance Scout Standard. So remember to bring your Scout booklet and we'll all try to get you guys attain your Scout Standard. The Muslim boys can be dismissed at 12.30pm.

FYI, the following week Fri (14 Aug), we'll be having a test for the Cooks proficiency badge. Please look for your patrol leaders for more info. You guys got to plan and prepare 4 dishes (Appetiser, Main course, dessert and drink) in 1 hour at the Food Lab plus churn out your menu card with nutrition info. Phew! Not easy harr... It's like your Cultural Fusion thing. Isn't it great? You get to prepare and eat and get a badge for it! Haha... Not so easy... You've got to work for it. If you do not contribute in the planning and preparation, then you don't get the badge and no delicious food for you.

Also after the cooking and feasting and getting the Cooks badge for it, Jiangli and I will be judging your patrols and there will be winner's prize for the best patrol.

When this is done, the Frisbee comp people will need to practise for their comp next week while the rest will continue to finish whichever areas missing to attain your Scout Standard or Advance Scout Standard.
Frisbee competition participants (Louis, Gerald, TingFang, Martin, Desmond, BingHui, Nishanth, Jonathon)
If you have attained the requirements, then you can join them for the fun.

15 Aug, Saturday (8am - 12.30pm) at EastSpring Sec - All to go there to support the Tampines District Frisbee competition. The competition ends at 2 or 4pm I think, but if you can stay then stay, if not you can be dismissed at 12.30pm from there.

Attire is half-U for the supporters.

Update - Kayaking 1 Star

Congrats to Jon, Nishanth, Gerald, Rashidah, Martin, Austin, Justin in successfully completing the 1 star programme!
Something to look forward in term 3.
If you've never been to Bt Timah, we're going to go hike it soon!
Yah... the sights will be the scary monkeys who would grab your plastic bag if you were ever carrying one. It is a lovely hill to climb though I know some of you are asking, "Why not Mount Faber? Isn't it taller... it is a mountain right?" Hhahahaa... You've done your Southern Ridges night hike the last time, so therefore you've seen Mt Faber...

P/S: For the rest of you Scouters, sorry guys. I can't sign everyone up as there is a limit of 6 persons and it was a rare opportunity offer from Siglap Sec Scouts as it is not easy to book a date and time for everyone to attend at Red Cross HQ (Near Dhoby Ghaut MRT). Will find another opportunity around Nov/Dec holidays period or maybe together with our Dunman Red Cross. TBC.

ERRATA - Kayaking 1 Star Prog

Sorry guys. Some error I need to highlight.
As for FOOTWEAR, when you are kayaking, you'd need to be wearing COVERED SHOES (preferably old ones which you can discard after the second day). That means you can go there wearing slippers or sandals, but change to covered shoes when you are going to kayak.

Kayaking 1 Star Prog - 6 & 7 June (Sat & Sun)

Attn to those signed up for the Kayaking 1 Star programme this coming Sat and Sun.
(Jon, Nishanth, Gerald, Eunice, Shahidah, Rashidah, Ting Fang, Martin, Hazimah, Austin, Justin)

Time: Meet at 8.30am at Changi Village bus interchange POSB ATM.
We will have breakfast at the Changi Village before walking to the Changi beach to the Changi PA Water Venture Centre for the course.

Other important info:
1. Swimwear - Girls are to bring your swimwear to protect yourself from the obvious. You are all going to get wet. Optional for boys, though you are encouraged to bring them too.

2. Clothing to wear during kayaking
- TOP - Scout Tee or any tee shirts (long sleeved would be good for protection from the sun) + a HAT or a CAP. Girls are to wear dark shirts if they do not have proper swimwear.

- BOTTOMS - Shorts or slacks

- FOOTWEAR - Any old pair of shoes to wear when you kayak, but you can come in slippers or sandals. They are needed to protect your feet from the very sharp rocks and shoes will get black and oily. You don't want to be walking home with sea water sloshing in your shoes.

3. Breakfast & Lunch at your own expense at the Changi Village for the 2 days.

4. It is NOT A CAMP. No overnight stay. Day 1 and Day 2, 8.30am-go there, 5pm-go home, 8.30am-go there, 5pm-go home

5. Bring SUNBLOCK lotion. It will burn... the sun will be merciless and burn...

6. WATER - Each are to bring at least 1 bottle of water (1.5L) or more. Adequate hydration is key to preventing heat injuries leading to heat stroke and such.

7. Those wearing glasses like me are to bring spectacle retainers like this (see image below) as once your glasses fall into the water, say Bye Bye to them forever. Bring Sunglasses if you have or want to wear them.

8. Extra clothing, towel and toiletries - You would need to bathe and go home in dry clothes right? DO BRING extra plastic bags to hold your wet clothes and shoes seperately.

Dear Scouts

We'll have our last training for the semester before the start of the June holidays this Thursday.
Time is from 1.30pm till 4.30pm or earlier since the next day (Fri) we all have our Sports Day at Tampines Stadium.
PLease bring along your sold donation draw tickets for 1st round of collection. We'll commence training. Faridah will be around and need help in getting firewood done up.

To Sec 4 & 5 scouts>> Good luck and work hard for your O level mothertongue paper next week Monday!

For the sec 2 and above who need to make new nametags, please SMS me to order by Friday (29 May 09). I'm ordering soon.

Kayaking on 6&7 June, Sat&Sun

Please submit your kayaking registration forms and Edusave to Ms Alia as soon as possible as we need to submit the forms to the Changi PA Water Venture by this Fri.

Sec fours who are going, please give the form to Danny to collate and pass it to Ms Alia.

The above picture is something I found online of a group of people doing kayaking at Changi. A small tip, for those who want to reduce the sunburn on the arms, wear a light long sleeved shirt a large hat and lots of sunblock. I'll bring my sunblock for the two days.

I might join you all in the water. Remember, its a 1 star course which means you'd get a certificate and a canoeist scout badge.

Donation Draw time!

Want to get that squirrel badge?

Then start your engines and sell sell sell!!!

Strategy no.1 - Start with your teachers first and get them to buy at least a whole booklet, its only $10!! So cheap for a chance to win 20K cash!!

Strategy no.2 - Target your classmates.

Strategy no.3 - Your dad, your mum, your sis, your brother, your doting aunt, uncle, cousins etc. Charm them with your cutey eyes and mushy "pleeaase?".

Strategy no.4 - Target your block with people waiting for the lift. Haha.. Catch them unawares.

Remember, next week Thursday noon from 1.30-2.30pm outside Scout den for first collection of donation draw returns.
